BOSQUET DES PAPES, Châteauneuf du Pape
Founded in 1860, and handed over from father to son, this excellent Domaine produces age-worthy wines that reach their peak after 6 or 7 years, in an authentic, traditional Châteauneuf du Pape fashion.
Nicolas Boiron, representing the 5th generation, is now in charge, his 27-ha vineyards consists of 40 parcels in the CNDP appellation, and the average age of the vines is 50 years. A 3.5-ha plot, with vines over 100 years old is used to produce top cuvée “Chante le Merle”
“This is one of the most consistent and brilliant producers of Châteauneuf du Pape, with an impressive record of consistency and high quality dating back well over the thirty years I have been tracking the wines of this appellation.” Robert Parker
Châteauneuf du Pape Traditionnelle is well-structured, concentrated, and full-bodied, it offers a classic southern Rhone aromatic display of ground pepper, garrigue, cherry liqueur, plums, and cedar with sweet, expansive, and pure fruit flavours and excellent delineation.
“A blend of 75% Grenache and the rest mostly Syrah and Mourvedre, with small amounts of Counoise, Vaccarese and Cinsault, this wine, aged in foudres, has an open-knit, fragrant bouquet of black cherries, spicy, peppery herbs and licorice. It is medium-garnet in color, full-bodied, generous, corpulent, and a sexy, complex, relatively evolved Chateauneuf du Pape to drink over the next 8-10 years.” Robert Parker, RP’s Wine Advocate: 90 points.
