DOMAINE VINCENT GIRARDIN, Meursault
Vincent Girardin’s conversion of his 22-ha vineyards towards biodynamic was started in 2006. As with many high profile Burgundy estates before him, including Domaine Leflaive, Vincent has realized the benefits of these methods. This, coupled with a less interventionist attitude at winemaking level, most of the work being done in the vineyards, the wines, more than ever, confidently show great finesse, brilliant fruit-expression with a racy mineral edge. Vincent Girardin really has come full circle, from someone who was producing very modern wines to someone that is really trying to obtain the fullest expression possible from his vineyards.
Due to health reasons, Vincent sold his business to La Compagnie des Vins d’Autrefois in February 2012; he will remain involved as a consultant.
“Clearly made in Burgundy, this is a savage wine, a highly distinctive Chardonnay. Immensely powerful, penetrating the palate with a concentrated lemon, honey, wet earth, ripe fruit combination. Full-bodied, it lasts for over a minute on the finish.
“Corton-Charlemagne has an expressive nose of green apple and lightly spiced pear which introduces round, minerally and intense flavours that possess obvious minerality ending with a racy lemony acid bite and an excellent persistence.”
