DOMAINE OLIVIER LEFLAIVE frères, Puligny-Montrachet
Brothers of Anne-Claude Leflaive, Olivier and Patrick run this estate with 12 ha of vineyards in the best climates of the Côte de Beaune. The wines, made in collaboration with in-house oenologist Franck Grux, are intense, purely defined with intelligent use of oak. In addition, they source grapes and must from a handful of dedicated growers.
Today, Olivier spends his time between his winery and greeting visitors to his “Table d’Olivier Leflaive” restaurant and guest house located in the heart of Puligny village.
Protected by impressive cliffs, the village of Saint-Romain lies like a hidden passage between Côtes de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes. Lovely nose, with fresh and ripe white fruit. The long, elegant palate shows plenty of citrusy fruit, flowery hints with racy mineral notes.
‘The Leflaive family have been producing wine in Burgundy for 16 generations, across five centuries, and so have an intimate knowledge of the land. They have found a Meursault-lite sweet spot in Saint-Romain, the golden, toasty brioche notes flicker among evident minerality and a touch of nuttiness in this medium-bodied wine. It is startlingly familiar, with a tiny twist. Well worth investigating for a glimpse of Leflaive genius at decent prices.’
