Pegos Claros, Palmela DOC
This red offers exceptional value, made from 40 year old Castelao vines, a Portuguese variety, the harvest is crushed by foot and aged in oak barrels for 8 months. It is then aged for another 9 months in bottles before release. These traditional methods are usually kept for making reserva wines that would cost much more.
The result is a full-on flavoured wine, with plenty of complex small berries and spicy flavours. The palate is richly textured and soft, with gorgeously ripe black berry, cherry and hints of dusty earthiness.
