Marittimo is a bright, lively and pure-fruited Vermentino with notes of Mediterranean herbs, sage and rosemary. The palate is dry, with fresh white fruit, citrus and almonds notes. Vermentino (aka Pigato in Liguria and Rolle in France) is a high quality varietal that thrives in coastal areas around this part of the Mediterranean. This example is mid-weight with a ripe lemon and herbal character, finishing with a pleasantly saline kick.
ANTONIO CAMILLO, Banditella di Alberese
Antonio Camillo owns two vineyards totalling 6 hectares in the Maremma Laziale in the very south of Tuscany. The climate is Mediterranean, soils are volcanic and the Ciliegiolo variety ripens beautifully here. His very old vine ‘Vallerana Alta’ was described in Decanter Magazine as “Italy’s best Ciliegiolo”. The Ciliegiolo varietal is believed to be either the parent, or the offspring of Sangiovese.
