Made with 100% Piquepoul Blanc, this crisp, clean, fruity wine has a lovely nose of white flowers and fresh fruit. Its aromas of green apple, citrus, pear and peach coupled with mineral and sea-influenced flavours hints are very pleasant and thirst quenching.
DOMAINE DE MONTREDON, Castlenau de Gers
The small Pic Poul AOC area is located along the shores of the Mediterranean. Soil is a mixture of limestone, clay and sand. The landscape is dotted with vineyards surrounded by fragrant `Garrigues`, pieces of heathland with wild herbs like rosemary, thyme and bay leaf. The combination of sea, sun and scents also impacts on the specific tastes of the wines. Bruno and Christine Cantie of Domaine Montredon own 55-ha, with 20-ha planted with piquepoul. Their style is for classic, text-book dry and crisp Picpoul, wines that are ideal with the local seafood – oysters and mussels in particular.
