WINERY OF GOOD HOPE, Stellenbosch
Grape quality is the absolute prime focus of the Winery of Good Hope, and the eponymous Good Hope range is the calling card of the entire range. These “house wines” are nothing short of excellent. The team refuses to compromise on quality, and use innovative thinking to minimize operational costs. This translates into entry-level price-points, but wines which are of higher quality, and offer site-specific individuality in a sector increasingly dominated by formulaic industrial winemaking and unexciting, often bland mass-market wines.
The Bush Vine Chenin Blanc is made from old bush-vines grown in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch. It is vinified in stainless steel with regular lees stirring. Dry, wonderfully lively, fruity and balanced, this is an excellent example of the price quality ratio available from South African Chenin Blanc and the 2009 is also a very good vintage. Purity of pear fruit, with a creamy, leesy mouthfeel and touches of flint and mineral, this finishes with a refreshing lime and mineral length.
