Description

For this weekend we have hand-picked some of our favourite Old school reliable and undoubted classic reds for your father to serve alongside a BBQ, to sip over a good book, to slurp during a thriller of a movie, to savour alongside that classic album on repeat, or the ultimate house red & just because he fancies a glass.

(Contains 6 reds x 1 bottle of each)

2018 CHATEAU DE VILLENEUVE, SAUMUR-CHAMPIGNY, LOIRE, FRANCE

Saumur-Champigny comes from 30 to 40 year-old Cabernet Franc vines grown on soils made of clay and chalk. Powerful nose of summer berry fruit with gamey hints. The palate is ample and rich, with ripe blackberry, plum and cassis notes. Very good ripeness throughout, yet quite fresh and balanced finish.

2016 DOMAINE SANTA DUC, COTE-DU-RHONE VIEILLES VIGNES, FRANCE

The Côtes du Rhône ‘Vieilles Vignes’ comes from old vineyards from Gigondas’ neighbouring villages of Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Seguret, and Rouaix. This wine is technically a Côtes du Rhône Villages, as it comes from the best villages in the appellation. The blend is 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, with the average vine age being approximately 40 years of age. This cuvée sees no oak with no destemming, and is bottled unfiltered. Big and full-on flavours – ripe sweet cherry, stewed prunes with spices, earth and wild herbs – the palate is full and ripe, showing great concentration. The dark berries fruit and gamey flavours are followed by chewy but ripe tannins

2016 CHATEAU TURCAUD, BORDEAUX , FRANCE

Produced with low-yielding Merlot (50%) with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, Turcaud Rouge has a deliciously fruity nose with cherry and spices; supple with interesting weight, structure and ripeness the palate has lots of clean red berry fruit, plum and hints of dusty cherries. The finish is fresh and well-balanced.

2017 DOMAINE LACOUR, PASSETOUTGRAINS, PINOT &GAMAY, BURGUNDY, FRANCE

Bourgogne Passetoutgrains is a blend of Gamay (70%) with Pinot Noir – Medium-bodied, fruit-driven, clear and lively with delicious notes of black cherry, raspberry and strawberry it is an easy-drinking, joyful Burgundy.

2016 CHATEAU DU CEDRE, MALBEC HERITAGE, CAHORS, S.WEST FRANCE

Héritage is a Malbec with 5% Merlot; Concentrated black fruit, blackberry, blueberry and cherry in a caressing, silky texture. Smooth with a creamy touch and a slight earthy complexity ending on clean, fresh notes. Amazing quality at this price.

2018 DOMAINE BEAUREGARD-MIROUZE, CORBIERES, SOUTHERN FRANCE

‘50% Syrah, 50% Grenache deeply rooted on free draining ferruginous sandstone soils in the heart of the Corbières garrigue. Organic methods, old-ish vines (the oldest are Syrah and are over 40 years old) and low yields make for a really honest, satisfying red. A little funky on the nose at first , then black peppercorn. On the palate; juicy and creamy, with chunky tannins. Spicy and juicy fruitiness, freshness and length on the finish.’
