Il Vino Malrotti is a bright, juicy Nebbiolo with very soft tannins. Jack and Serena decided to produce an easy drinking red rather than a full-on structured and tannic one. 556 bottles were made.
IL VINO MALROTTI, Jack and Serena Crotty, Govone
This wine comes from the village of Govone, in essence from the back garden of Jack and Serena Crotty. Jack hails from Cork, he was behind NeighbourFood online farmer markets and the Rocketman in Cork City. He now lives in Govone, Piemonte with his wife Serena and their two daughters. They own 300 Nebbiolo vines, located on a slope behind their house, which they harvested for the first time in 2023.
Vinification took place with the help of brothers Matteo and Davide of Casa Tallone, a tiny winery working with natural methods. After a short 10-day soakage, the wine was pressed and transferred into a cement tank where fermentation finished. No additives were used during winemaking and a tiny amount of SO2 was added at bottling. A mere 556 bottles were made, 240 of which are available in Ireland.
The label was drawn by Tom Campbell, a well-known artist living in Cork City.
