Domaine du Météore, Faugères 'Léonides'

€18,95

Rich and velvety blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, The nose has the characteristic blackcurrant notes of this cuvée, with peppery and wild herb notes. The palate is fresh, digestible, with a spicy finish. This wine is a perfect expression of its terroir.

The grapes are carefully destemmed, then vinified in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in stainless steel tanks.

Domaine du Météore, Faugères 'Léonides' - Certified Organic
The vineyards of Faugères are planted on steep-sloped schist outcrops of the Cévennes. This particular estate owes its name to a 10,000 year old meteor, which can be seen at the base of the crater. Two local factors mark all the wines: first all the family’s 23 hectares of vines are on schistous soils - and that gives the wines a particular high-toned scent and exciting minerality; and second, the vineyards go up to 350 metres in altitude, and that, combined with cool downdrafts from the plateau to the north, brings freshness to their wines. Syrah in particular benefits from this terroir. It’s also worth noting that the estate is in conversion to
certification for biodynamic viticulture.

The domaine has been recently purchased by Paul Jenkins and Paul Jarman, two London-based doctors and wine enthusiasts who have known the area well for many years. Passionate about the possibilities presented by the Faugères schist terroir to create truly compelling wines, they spent a long time searching for a vineyard with the right potential, history and a truly unique setting. When they found Domaine du Météore, they knew they had found the right land and vines to create the wines they wanted.
